CertainTeed Shingle Repair: The Ventura Owner’s Guide
Most CertainTeed shingle repairs in Ventura run between $450 and $950 installed, depending on how many shingles failed, the slope of your roof, and whether the underlayment underneath took water. We stock CertainTeed-compatible shingles and accessories on our trucks, so a single-section repair is usually wrapped up the same day we diagnose it. The call usually starts the same way: a homeowner notices a shingle in the yard after a Santa Ana wind event, or they spot a dark patch on the ceiling after a winter rain, or they see granule grit stacking up in their gutters. One thing leads to another, and now we’re up on a ladder looking at a torn shingle, cracked sealant strip, or a row of tabs that’s lifted along the eaves.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s residential shingle lines break into three families: the 3-tab XT line, the architectural Landmark series, and the premium Grand Manor and Carriage House lines. The compatibility gotcha that trips up most Ventura homeowners: a Landmark shingle is not a drop-in match for a Landmark Pro or a Landmark Premium, even when the color name is identical. The Pro and Premium lines have a thicker mat, slightly different exposure, and a different shadow line, and a mismatched patch shows up like a thumbprint from the street. If you have the original bundle wrapper, read the full product code on the side. If you don’t, we take a shingle sample and measure the exposure and thickness to match it against CertainTeed’s current production spec. For older roofs where the exact color has been discontinued, we’ll recommend the closest current CertainTeed color and show you a physical sample before anything gets nailed down. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but in our experience, a true CertainTeed OEM shingle blends better and ages at the same rate as the surrounding field, which matters more in Ventura’s sun exposure than most people realize.

Signs Your CertainTeed Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Curling tabs along the eaves. This is the earliest warning sign. The shingle’s asphalt core dries out over years of Ventura sun, and the corners begin to lift. Once they curl past about half an inch, wind gets under them and starts peeling the whole row.
- Granule loss that leaves dark bald patches. Granules protect the asphalt from UV. When they shed, the shingle’s waterproof layer is directly exposed. Check your gutters: a heavy accumulation of sand-like grit that looks like black beach sand is a sign the shingles are past mid-life.
- Cracked or missing tabs after wind events. We see this most often on older 3-tab XT roofs in the Midtown Ventura corridor and the beachside neighborhoods near Ventura Pier. A tab that’s creased or cracked across the middle has lost its structural integrity and will tear through in the next strong gust.
- Lifted flashing along chimneys or vents with shingles pulling away at the edges. The flashing may be fine, but the shingles that overlap it can lose their seal and flip up. This creates a channel for driven rain, especially during the winter storms that hit the Ventura foothills.
- Water stains on the ceiling or down the wall below a roof valley. A valley shingle failure doesn’t always show up as a missing shingle. Sometimes the shingle is intact but the sealant strip underneath has failed, and water travels under the shingle and finds a nail hole or seam in the underlayment.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a straight CertainTeed shingle repair on a standard Ventura single-story home with a walkable pitch, most of our jobs land between $450 and $650. That includes materials, labor, removal and disposal of the failed shingles, and a check of the surrounding area for loose nails or compromised sealant strips. If we’re working on a steep cut-up roof, a two-story home, or a section where the underlayment has to be cut out and replaced, the number moves toward $750 to $950. We don’t price by the shingle alone because the part cost is only a sliver of the job: you’re paying for a crew that shows up with the right material, removes the failed section without damaging the surrounding field, and leaves the roof as watertight as the day it was installed. Our written quote before work starts shows the exact line items. The number on that quote is the number on your invoice.

There are two honest answers here. What you can safely do yourself is diagnose the visible signs: walk the perimeter, photo the damaged shingles from the ground, check your gutters for granules, and look at the ceiling from the attic side. What you should not do is get on the roof and start prying up shingles. A shingle repair done wrong is how a $500 problem turns into a $4,000 deck replacement: one misplaced nail, one torn underlayment seam, one nail moved by a hammer swing, and water finds its way in. And water doesn’t fail fast. It fails quietly, over a season, and shows up as a stain two rooms away from where the actual leak was. We’ve replaced more wood than we’d like to count because a well-meaning homeowner tried to save a few hundred dollars. If you want to talk through what you’re seeing before making any decisions, call us at (559) 249-4917. If we can save you a trip up the ladder, we will.
FAQs
An architectural Landmark shingle typically performs for 22 to 28 years in Ventura’s coastal and inland climate zones, while 3-tab XT shingles realistically run 15 to 20 years. Your actual lifespan depends on pitch, attic ventilation, tree cover, and whether the roof faces full western sun exposure.
A single damaged shingle can almost always be replaced as a spot repair, and that’s the approach we take when the surrounding field is still in good condition. If we find widespread granule loss, curling across multiple elevations, or brittle shingles that crumble when we lift them, we’ll tell you a patch is throwing good money after bad and show you exactly why, with photos and a written recommendation. Call (559) 249-4917 for an exact quote. Estimates are free.
Most single-section CertainTeed shingle repairs are completed in 2 to 4 hours from setup to cleanup. If we’re doing repairs on multiple elevations or replacing underlayment, plan on a full day. We’ll give you a clear completion window before the crew arrives, and you’ll get before-and-after photos when the job is done.
We stock the most common CertainTeed Landmark and Landmark Pro colors on our trucks, which covers a large share of Ventura homes built in the last 20 years. For discontinued colors, premium lines like Grand Manor, or less common colorways, we source the material from our supplier network and have it in hand before the scheduled work date. If we don’t have it, we’ll tell you that upfront and give you a delivery timeline in writing before you commit to anything.
